Sunrise at the Tabernacle

The sun rises over the tabernacle every morning, but it feels special when I'm there to see it.
A concrete pump had been there for hours.
He was filling in the moat on the south side.
The pink paint marks the "fill-to-here" line.  And I wish that was snow you are seeing, but it's actually splatter on the walls.  The horizontal openings in the wall above the workman are where the floor of the underground parking from the south lot will meet the tabernacle.
All the pillars in the north lot annex have been poured and released form their wooden forms.  I noticed attention being given to the elevator shaft in the lower left corner of this photo.
These red lotus plants have shown up in the basement before a pour, but I can't see what's going to happen here.
It's been fun watching the west porch progress.
It's easier to imagine how the building will flow now that the foundation walls are being exposed.  The basement will have two levels.  The upper level on this west side will have areas for the temple staff to use.  The exterior areas being built outside the foundation will be for the engineers.
Excavation in the south lot continues.  I believe I've used that line in the last six posts.
There is actually progress, though.  This view came from this morning's construction cam.  The concrete forms in the south lot are there solely for storage.
I love watching progress on the tower caps.  This is one of the two on the west side of the north lot.
These other two look like they are eagerly awaiting Halloween.  The crossbeams were placed by Jacobsen so the caps could be handled and moved.
The east side was beautiful this morning in the sun,
As was the north side.
I saw a lot of my favorite things this morning.

  1. Silly as this request might be, you really ought to stand at one of the openings in the fence at the top of the hour and wave at the camera! That way, we can always wave back!! ;)

  2. I've been caught on camera a couple of times, but I was unaware of the time, so there was no waving on my part. I try to pay attention on one of my trips.

  3. Just checked the temple cam. It looks like they are pouring the final lift!!!!!

  4. The cam is stuck at 1:30, but yes, that's what it looks like to me, too. This is a very good sign!

  5. The "red lotus blossoms" are actually plastic caps required by OSHA to prevent workers from bending our and putting a rebar in the eye, or worse yet, from falling and impaling themselves with the rebar. Trust me - this happens more often than one thinks

  6. Thank you. In trying to figure out their purpose, I wasn't even close to thinking about safety.

  7. Something is up with the construction cam. Considering the fact that they may be doing the final lift, this is NOT good timing. :(

  8. I share your frustration. I went to the site this morning and am working on pictures. Fill was poured on the south side today. Part of the final lift was poured on Saturday, when the cam was also out of commission, but I have some pictures of it. I need another hour or so to finish.

  9. I wonder who would be the contact for letting them know...

  10. The senior missionary at the site told me he starts getting calls within minutes of when it stops working, so I have to assume that it's not a minor problem today. I don't know how to reach him, but apparently others do, so they can handle this for us.
